Beating Blackjack

Blackjack is an interesting game because part of it is entirely built on chance and randomness, while the other part is built on strategy. There are many ways to win at Blackjack, and most of it rests upon the extent to which you can keep a cool head.

In this article we will look at ways in which you can give yourself the very best chance of beating the  game. Remember though, that Blackjack has a lot of chance in it, and it is quite possibly one of the most frustrating games to play if you don’t stay relaxed. You can’t win all the time, and it is very easy to run on and try and beat the system. Best to follow the rules below if you want any chance of doing well.

Some quick tips

Always hit on a soft 17. If you get an Ace and a 6 this gives you 17, and room to maneuver if things go wrong. Since the Ace has two faces (or point scores) this is a great point to hit up.

At the same time, if you reach 17 and it is a hard 17, i.e it is one that has been gained by a 10 and a 7 for example, always stand. And if you have anything higher than a hard 17, stand with this too. The odds of getting a good third card here are pretty slim.

Never ever play for extended periods of time. There are a number of reasons for this but perhaps the most important is that you will start to get mentally tired. This is not a good thing when the game requires so much concentration. Playing for too long leaves you open to making mistakes and even to making you think you are on a winning streak when you are simply not. It is absolutely 100% foolish to play for too long and this is one of the biggest failings of many rookie players.

Never play when drinking. This may seem a little obvious to everyone who is reading this, but even the smallest amount of alcohol can cause you to make foolish decisions and lose inhibitions. When you are trying to win money and every card counts, it is best to be sober and focused on ensuring that you are making the best decision you possibly can with each card you face.

Ignore the myth that is probably spread by anyone near to you about there being  a ‘hot’ table nearby. The hot table myth centres around people saying that one table is a lucky table. Like most gambling situations, this is a dangerous myth, and it must be ignored. This is a game of chance for most of the duration of play. There is no such thing as a hot table in Blackjack.

Finally, just sit down anywhere at a table. Anyone who thinks where you sit at a Blackjack table matters is fooling themselves. Seriously, sit where you want and just do your best to be patient and stand when the cards you have are good.
